Jesus death as political act sparks Easter debate
Syracuse religion writer Melanie Greaves-Hirsch reports scholars Paula Fredricksen and John Dominic Crossan argue Jesus was executed by Roman Prefect Pilate as a political subversive tied to Passover insurrection. Debates cite Roman attitudes toward Caesar and the kingdom of God clashing with Jewish authorities and early Christian claims.
