Marshall returns from Moscow and plans to brief President Truman Congress and the public on why the seven week foreign ministers’ talks failed to meet major objectives. He rested 24 hours at Pitchurst Lodge in North Carolina before flying back to Washington.
Mrs Evalyn Walsh McLean owner of the Hope Diamond and notable society figure, died Saturday night at her Friendship mansion in Washington. Age 60. Pneumonia caused death after brief illness and 24 hours of oxygen. She received last rites from Rev Edmund Walsh S J. Survived by two sons, John in Texas and Edward in Colorado Springs. seven months earlier her daughter Mrs Evalyn McLean Reynolds had died.
Secretary of State George C. Marshall reaches Washington after a Moscow flight of 21 hours 39 minutes, amid claims it may be the fastest on record. John Foster Dulles doubts the exact figure until official logs are checked. Marshall plans a 30 minute radio nationwide broadcast and Congress prepares to act on $400 million Greek Turkish aid to curb communism.
A 71-year-old Chicago man, Robert Good, welcomed a baby boy after a 28-year wait. He is a grandfather to two daughters and the baby's mother is Anna, 44. He fears others may mock his age, but remains happy and hopeful for his son.

Three main Palestinian cities would be sealed into military districts under martial control.
New York City police report a second disappearing bus over the month. The pilfered bus was found abandoned on an uptown street several hours later after a garden variety theft. No injuries reported.
Three transatlantic planes landed in quick succession to beat the week old record from Newfoundland to Shannon. C P Jones, piloting a British Overseas Airways Corporation Constellation, set a new 5 hour 28 minute mark over 2014 miles, shaving 27 minutes from the old record. a fourth plane was within a minute of the time.

Governor Dewey plans a broad early May push as his 1948 presidential ambitions move toward the surface. After a rest at his Pawling farm he is expected to begin an extensive summer tour, including the Governors Conference in Salt Lake City around July 10, with additional state visits suspected.
The Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Company announced that its Great Lakes steamship service suspended since December 19 will be resumed May 28 under a new labor agreement with the Great Lakes Seafarers' International Union.

United Press reports agreements covering 125 000 GE Chrysler and Jones & Laughlin workers set the 15 cent wage pattern. GE pledges 11.5 cent raise for hourly workers and six paid holidays yearly plus other benefits. Salaried staff gain 12.5 cents per hour. Paid holidays include New Year s Day Fourth of July Labor Day Thanksgiving and Christmas. Concluded on page 6 column A.
Officials of the New York Brewery Workers Union postponed a strike planned for midnight and said they would negotiate with individual brewers instead of the Brewers Board of Trade. The New York State Mediation Board joined the dispute and invited union representatives to a Monday meeting. The union accepted the invitation on condition that brewery representatives also attend.
