Oswego County investigators will question fugitive William Michael Branshaw after Missouri troopers stopped him in a 1979 silver Pontiac Firebird reported stolen from Scriba teen Sam J. Amedio Jr. Branshaw was driving the victim's car during a Sunday traffic stop, authorities said.
Billy Graham spoke at Hendricks Chapel on Syracuse University campus urging students to commit to Christ. He linked peace to a moral turn, discussed three kinds of peace, and answered questions for about a half hour to a mixed audience of students and locals. The event drew more than 1,000 attendees and was funded by student fees.
Tonight remains generally clear with low temperatures around 35 to 40. Sunday brings sun mixing with high level clouds and a high near 60 to 65.
Jurors in the Oliver North trial return to the courtroom after a one day hiatus spent under marshal guard to prevent outside discussion. Deliberations enter a third day as jurors remain housed in a downtown hotel with marshals present and forbidden to speak of the case outside deliberations.
President Bush led a memorial at Norfolk Naval Station for 47 sailors lost aboard the USS Town. Among the dead were Milton Francis Devau Jr from Solvay Gary Fisk of Stockbridge Todd Tatham of Wolcott and Reginald Ziegler of Port Gibson. The crowd numbered about 3000 as Bush spoke of gratitude and peace.
Defense Secretary Cheney announced a five year 175 percent cut to SDI funding and a delay of Stealth bomber production. The budget proposes about 46 billion dollars for SDI research and development for 1990, an 11 billion reduction from Reagan's request, with Congress unlikely to approve the full package.
