Major floods loom across the Dakotas as rivers rise

Emergency officials closed parks and boat landings along the Red River basin as floodwaters spread through Minnesota and North Dakota. By Sunday more than half of Minnesota counties reported some flooding, with Fargo down to 44.7 feet and Grand Forks near 54 feet in 1997 in memory as a reference. Light rain and melting snow were forecast to sustain major flooding through the coming week, prompting road closures and dike reinforcements.
