Temperatures fall to 45 to 50 as tomorrow stays cloudy and windy with rain likely, highs in the 60s. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph bring milder air. Rain chances are 40 percent tonight and 60 percent tomorrow.

Niagara Mohawk Power Corp seeks March 1982 rate increases of 14 percent for electric service and 5.5 percent for gas. If approved by the Public Service Commission, the average residential electric bill would rise by 4.62 monthly, gas by 5.69 in peak months, and non heating gas by 3.75. Previous PSC approval raised bills 3.65 for electric and about 2 for gas. The company cites inflation and interest rates as drivers and notes possible adjustment if projections change.
Rescue teams in Redstone Colorado advanced into a 7,200 foot section of the Dutch Creek No 1 coal mine as 15 miners remained trapped after yesterday's explosion. Seven men escaped in two groups. four uninjured, three treated at Valley View Hospital Glenwood Springs for burns bruises and shock. Fire damp and gas tests delayed progress as crews pushed toward the trapped workers.
The Washington Post publicly apologized for printing a fabricated profile of an 8 year old heroin addict that won a Pulitzer Prize. Janet Cooke relinquished her prize and resigned after admitting the piece was a composite and the child did not exist. The paper’s editorial and Pulitzer board actions followed, with Columbia and Village Voice receiving attention for the replacement award.
AP reports Blue Cross corrected a computer error that sent 2500 bills for a 183 dollar premium to 16 families, with the Blagmon family receiving hundreds. The Blagmons, living in Elmsford, await pickup of the bills and plan to pay by month end. Blue Cross says the error cost at least 300 in postage and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Greater New York notes the resolution.
