Rosenthal Chosen to Head New Board War Measures
Washington April 15 CP Mor ris Rosenthal a New York importer was chosen to head the new import division of the Board of Economic Warfare with centralized authority to slash red tape in acquiring foreign raw materials for the U S war effort. Roosevelt issued an executive order giving BEW full direction of purchasing abroad while vice president Wallace and Milo Perkins urged the change since January. BEW will direct foreign stockpiles and issue policy orders to RFC subsidiaries now under its umbrella. BEW gains authority over lend lease in reverse and can require reciprocal aid terms, potentially delaying shipments if beneficiaries fail to reciprocate.

Washington lawmakers show broad support for Senate pay rise plans doubling base pay for soldiers and sailors in lower ranks while trimming rental and subsistence allowances for higher officers. One Shot Three Injured In Chicago Election Clash
