Tennessee based Regal Cinemas plans a nine million dollar entertainment center at the Penn Can shopping center in Cicero off Interstate 81. The project will replace the mall with a strip center anchored by a 136000 square foot Funscape featuring 14 movie screens a multi level 36 hole miniature golf course and a large indoor family center with arcade attractions a children's play zone and a learning center with touch screen computers plus virtual reality games.

Onondaga County Parks seeks to acquire part of the neighboring Syracuse Developmental Center to create a permanent woodland buffer for Burnet Park Zoo. The 60 acre hillside campus on South Wilbur Avenue was delayed from closing, and officials stress the woods are essential for the Wild North exhibit and bear, reindeer, and snow leopard viewing. County planners note the 36 acre zoo site is cramped on Syracuse’s West Side and a future land win would curb surrounding development.
HUA County parks officials aim to expand onto land owned by the Syracuse Developmental Center as the facility proceeds toward closure. The move follows the center’s scheduled shutdown and may affect local recreation space and future development plans.
