In Saratoga Springs a downtown old business apartment building burned during Easter recess killing eight people from the Abeel family and a visiting Greenfield child Garry La Rue. Five Abeel children Willie Ruthie Peachy Jeannie Gilbert Jr aged 5 to 16. About 33 others escaped with some injuries. An eyewitness saw Gilbert Abeel at a window calling for help seconds before flames consumed the building.
