Brief warm spell with fair skies tonight at Hancock Airport and a high in the mid 70s tomorrow. Forecasters at the National Weather Service expect variable clouds with a 10 percent chance of rain tonight and 30 percent tomorrow. Winds will be southerly at 10 to 20 mph.
CAPE CANAVERAL Florida AP reports Forrest Cole aged 50 died after injuries from a rehearsal accident at Kennedy Space Center. He was Rockwell International employee and had been in intensive care at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville since the incident. The accident killed another worker who entered a purge shuttle chamber.
The FTC charged Volkswagen of America and VW of Germany regarding oil consumption defects in over 1 million vehicles from 1974 to 1979. If upheld, the suit would require owner notices and possibly compensation payments. Vehicles include VW Rabbits and Dasher models with water cooled engines. air cooled Beatles and vans are excluded. White Plains AP Westchester authorities arrested about two dozen reputed mob figures tied to a metropolitan gambling and loan-sharking syndicate. Notable detainees include Lawrence Centore and John Pelose Jr as major crime figures.
