Progressive Hardware Merchant Expands Amid Swarthmore Changes

The Daniels Estate prop on Park Avenue and Chester Road sells to J. D. Durnall. The hardware store moves to the former Wm. S. Bittle site and the current store becomes two shops, with J. H. Voelker renting a barber space and Harris & Orn, tailors, occupying the other. Joseph Celia, shoemaker, rents Mersh’s former shop. The stable becomes private garages.

The Artsman Morality Play At Rose Valley Hall

The Artsman a poetical morality play by Will Price of Rose Valley was staged at Rose Valley Tsman Hall by Frank Stephens William Price Mrs L S Oliver Owen Stephens Edith Wayne and others and will be repeated tomorrow night the 9th at 8 30.

Honor Roll Tablet dedication in stormy day

Elaborate preparations for the dedication and unveiling of the Honor Roll Tablet designed by Mr. Guernsey Moore at Station Square were disrupted by a severe storm causing the meeting to be moved indoors. A parade from Borough Hall to the Woman's Club featured Public School Children Private School Students Boy Scouts Fire and Protective Association and Home Reserves with Captain J Kirk McCurdy leading and Hon William P Potter delivering the address before Rev John Ellery Tuttle offered the prayer.

Avery Clymer and Flora Humphrey Young exchanged vows June 6 at Swarthmore Presby terian Church. Miss Young wore white duchesse satin as Hilda Miller of Philadelphia played the organ. elaborate decorations enhanced the ceremony.

Yale economist Professor Irving Fisher heads a drive to pass war time prohibition. He urges citizens to contact their Congressmen and push for action. Swarthmore residents are urged to telegram their representatives without fail.

Night Letter to Congress on Grain Preservation

Telegram urges immediate action from the House to stop liquor makers from destroying grain. It stresses that preserving six hundred million bushels of wheat would feed millions and prevent starvation, and calls for telegraph petitions supporting prohibition to overwhelm Congress.

Naomi Scott Receives Dress Making Teacher Certificate

At the National Training School for Women and Girls in Washington Miss Naomi Scott earned a dress making teaching certificate and won two prizes for exemplary student and nearest girl. The Woman's Club Scholarship supports her education while Nassau Scholarship still needs funds.

Swarthmore College Commencement Due To War Conditions

Swarthmore College will not issue formal invitations for commencement due to wartime conditions and invites all friends to attend. The week opens with the Senior Luncheon on Thursday June 7 at 1 PM followed by Class Day exercises at 1:45 PM in the open air auditorium and the Senior Class Play at 4 PM.

Community gardening flourishes under Hinman leadership

Under E. E. Hinman the Organizing Committee directs a five acre bean planting by college women, public school children, and borough figures. Many volunteers including high school and eighth grade students pledge time though seed completion is expected this week.

Junior Auxiliary Meeting at Wo mans Missionary Society

The Junior Auxiliary of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church will hold its final meeting Saturday at 2 30 P M in the chapel. A silk banner will be awarded to the winning group followed by a programme. Ice cream home made cakes and candy will be for sale.

Registration Day in Swarthmore Records 171 Registrations

The Swarthmore borough registered 171 residents last Tuesday, with 53 colored and ten aliens. Registrars reported a quiet orderly process and believe Swarthmore achieved 100 percent registration. Swarthmore also marks the first registration in Delaware County on May 24.

Recruiting Officer Appoints Navy Army Marine Enlistment

Postmaster Smith has been appointed a recruiting officer to procure enlistments for the Navy Army and Marine Corps. A citizen from 18 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches or over in height, and weighing 124 pounds or more is eligible for enlistment.
