Historical fiction grows despite genre shifts across reading public
Librarians note steady demand for historical fiction and rising supply. Authors move toward historical romances while thrillers like Russell Thorndyke’s The Master of the Macabre also spotlight Hereward the Wake. New works include The First Englishman and Journey to Seville continuing John Carson’s tale. Biographical titles on Gilbert White and Bishop James Inskip appear, with Anne Hepple’s The House of Gow anticipated in Australia.
