Keilor Shire Council heard a letter from W and A Gunter about wandering cattle near Sydenham. The Shire Ranger reported incidents including a confrontation with a 14 year old girl and threats against him, leading councillors to back legal action against the black cow owner.
The Keilor council, led by Mr. Holliday, plans to retain the birth and death registrar office in the township. Dr. Moffat notes residents of St Albans could avoid a long city trip by using Keilor office, a fact few knew.
Efforts by Keilor Council through Mr St Holden MLA aim to address an inadequate Sydenham train service. Dr Gooch moved to back Sydenham Progress Association and seek trains to stop on request.
At the Keilor Shire Council meeting W T Baulch was appointed Assistant Shire Secretary and Assistant Rate Collector after a successful probation. D G Pascoe was added to the payroll to assist with rate collection and related work. The council considers a Mo Morton's nomination for Commission of the Peace. Due to fibrous plaster shortages, cement remains for library renovations, with painting to follow. Four tenders for the Premier Estate roadwork are noted. Hilbert Bros. submit the low bid of 18 308 pounds 8 shillings 4 pence. Council plans Oheren and Station Aves works at St Albans and seeks to accelerate before winter. A request from Braybrook and funds from CR.B prompt a plan. failure to obtain funds may bring a deputation from both municipalities.
Famous cyclists Max and Keith Rowley will attend the Sunshine Amateur Cycling Club meeting on Wednesday night at Shire Hall to give a lecture on cycling.
A council meeting discussed a letter from Mr Mochrie's solicitors stating the timber yard was not to be established but to stock timber for Sunshine Cabinet Works. Six month land retention was asked, with dissent from Drs Pennell, Parsons, Lynch, Beachley and Salmond.
Braybrook Council heard complaints about sanitation despite assurances of 99 percent efficiency from Sanit ary Contractor Mr Smith. Health Inspector Mr Dixon read a list of complaints since his visit, noting no contractor staff visited the office. Dr Barclay moved to inform Mr Smith of the breakdown and provide a detailed complaint statement. Dr Dobson cited Maidstone residents burying excreta due to service failures.
Braybrook Shire Ridings to be rated on an equal basis 2s 6d in the pound. Western Riding Councillors urged keeping the rate at 2s per pound but failed to lodge the objection in time. Estimates prepared and notices displayed. Dr Pennell pressed for farmer consideration amid rural roads low cost and CRB contributions.
A well attended St Albans meeting chaired by Mr A Clarke discussed hall suitability for kindergarten work, proposed alterations, and affiliation with the Free Kindergarten Union. Plans include a Gymkhana Carnival on Foundation Day, New Year Gala Night, Euchre afternoon, and a front fence upgrade with tree planting and a Reserve Committee meeting later. Public meeting praised Mrs J Hutson for 22 years of service and formed an Astrone committee for a social and dance on December 2. St Albans Pictures reopens tomorrow with improved plant and seating.
Sunshine Old Boys' Association reports cricket in full swing with three straight victories and confident of a splendid season. Monthly meeting set for Friday November 12 at 8 p.m. in Theatre Hall. players urged to attend.

The West Sunshine bus service extension along King Edward Ave to Selwyn Park was not approved after a TC led review. Investigators found Selwyn Park within reasonable walking distance of current termini, and changes to Sunshine to Deer Park buses were not adopted.
Sixck Braybrook Shire Council refused Sunshine Porcelain Potteries permission to erect living quarters for Balts at the factory. A flood of letters from firms and utilities nationwide urged housing as electric insulator shortages hinder development. The Commonwealth Labour Department offered to supply information on housing for displaced persons, to be discussed first at the council meeting pending immigration policy and production needs.
Silney Cooke Ltd proposes a 7 acre Brooklyn site featuring a factory bulk store and laboratory with offices and staff amenities. Buildings would be set in a garden setting of lawns and shrubs set back from the street alignment pending project approval.
Inclement weather dulled the bazaar’s success for the U S L New Building Fund but a nice sum was raised. Gratitude extended to Sunshine and Footscray for donations. Special efforts winners included Satin Nightgown to Mrs Handley, Pyrex Dish to Shirley Webb, Tea to Mrs I Richards, Box Chocolates to Mrs Blakey, Cake to Mrs D Soutar. A meeting on Tuesday November 16th will include nomination of a will. Cold afternoons have been discontinued until further notice.
