Costs and debate over St Albans Hall improvements
The Shire Engineer estimated stage one costs for St Albans Hall at 5 000 to 6 000 pounds with full work likely 18 000 to 30 000. Councillors argued whether to proceed amid debt concerns and alternatives, noting footpaths and lights versus the hall. A motion to inform the combined committee of the engineer’s opinion failed to gain support as Council members discussed funding and local benefit.
