Mr. Merv Bickley will open a cycle and sports store on Tuesday next at 246 Hampshire Road next to Mr Johnsons dentistry. He is president of the Sunshine Cycling Club and holds the Cecil Walker bicycle agency.
The Sunshine Football Club held a dance and presentation at Sunshine Town Hall attracting 300 to 400 guests. Shire President Dr. J. R. Parsons presented awards with T Murphy and G Whittaker representing the Sub-District League. Various trophies honored players including J Attril and J Howard.
Jack Carey of 17 Canning Street Carlton faces a by law charge for dumping rotten fruit on Sunshine Road near White City. Councillor Edward H Drayton reported spotting Darcy unloading waste while hawking fruit. A £2 fine plus costs of £1 4s 6d was imposed by W J Andrew JP.
The annual Albion supporters versus Sunshine Anglers match is set for Sunday at 1.30 p.m. on Albion ground. Captain Cunningham leads Albion with Ted Willey and Leo Fisher spearheading the anglers attack as both teams prepare for selection from a list of players including Baker vice captain Utber Shorten Hjorth Henderson Shade Day Schmidt Cowlishaw and Allison.
Mrs Jane McKenzie of Servante Street Sunshine faced a by law charge for keeping cattle near her dwelling as vandals damaged her grazing area. Mr Andrew J.P. imposed a nominal penalty of ten shillings with costs of one shilling and one penny.
The church leadership under Mrs. O Eliason, organist, invites attendance for an evening program featuring the full arias and sacred pieces of the Stainer work and related hymns. The service aims to showcase choral singing and congregational participation.
Bernard Terence Calnan of 29 Ridley Street Sunshine was found guilty of street betting at Sunshine Court of Petty Sessions with a £20 fine. The Court of General Sessions, led by Judge Foster, reversed the Sunshine magistrates and acquitted Calnan on appeal due to slender evidence from a plainclothes police constable.
A Sunshine youth was arrested by detectives in Footscray Northcote for wilfully setting fires that destroyed Our Lady's Church in Sunshine and St. Anthony's Church in Alphington. He was charged with arson in both incidents.
Colin C. Downey was fined 10 with costs at the Sunshine Court for opening a road in Maribyrnong without a Braybrook Council permit. Inspector Thorpe testified he saw Downey digging a trench in Raleigh Road on March 6. Downey admitted lacking the required permit.
