Public meeting backs General Hospital for Sunshine district

A large turnout urged a General Hospital for Sunshine with a 60 to 70 bed facility. The Charities Board would fund part of £50,000, locals to raise the rest, including a possible loan. Proponents stressed universal access regardless of ability to pay and warned against a private hospital model.

Ex-Students Plan Picnic and Club Meetings

Ex-students outline events for the year with a Brighton picnic on Sunday March 17 leaving 8 19 train and lunches invited. The social committee meets Tuesday at 7 3 p.m. at Mr Bull's office and a Havekey Club discussion is set for Wednesday at 7 40 p.m. in the Girls School. An April 3 general meeting follows at 8 p.m. in the Girls School.

Albion Cricket Club year end meeting and social

The final meeting of the year will be held in the club room on Sunday next at 9.40 am. All members are requested to attend. The Annual Presentation Social will be held in St. Mark's Hall on Wednesday, April 10th. Batting Average for the season was won by E. Hampton, and the Bowling Average by Leary. Juniors, Batting and Bowling, S. Henry.

Chas Grant Among Plane Crash Victims Near Hobart

Obituary notes the death of Chas Grant of Graham Street Sunshine in a Douglas Aircraft crash off Hobart last Sunday. Grant, former Industrial Officer for Massey Harris and manager of the Chamber of Manufacturers Iron and Steel section, was returning from Tasmania after industrial duties. He leaves a widow and two daughters.

Junior Library Project for Sunshine Shire Needs Support

The Sunshine Youth Centre and local organisations back a junior library to provide free access to books for children. Volunteers will repair recondition catalog and sort books, with large parcels collected by contacting Mr W R Roberts or dropped at Shire Hall Seymour’s Corner or Lorraine Lee Flower Shop.

St Albans Progress and Community Club Updates

The Progress Association holds its monthly meeting next Tuesday at 7 pm with new members invited. The Mothers Club reports its March 6 annual meeting electing officers Mrs. T McIntyre President Mrs R Patten Secretary and Mrs T Smith Treasurer. Brownies begin regular meetings under Miss Heather Ormiston with room at Mrs Lodge's hall and future enrollment open. The Girl Guides Association Sunshine will hold its annual meeting March 21 at 2 pm in the Shire Hall Sunshine with a guest speaker.
