At a Tuesday meeting members heard the plan process and loan method. Resolutions approved compliance with government rules on director re election and securing funds under government security. Directors appointed auditors and a Melbourne architect to supervise construction. The first member loan is expected within three weeks and building will begin soon after.
The Women’s Christian Temperance Union opens its 9 ca year with a meeting in Presbyterian School Hall on Thursday March 7 at 2 30 pm. Rev W Salter of Sun Shine Baptist Church will speak. New members welcome. Afternoon tea and musical items planned. The District Union hosts a Picnic next Tuesday at Altona Park with trains from the city at 9 55, 10 55 and 11 65.
Our annual meeting is set for Wednesday March 6 inviting all past students to attend. The gathering will elect officers for the next year and promises discussion of items of interest after the meeting.
Dr. J. R. Parsons confirms a Sunshine Town Hall meeting next Thursday at p.m. to discuss forming a General Hospital for the shire. The gathering aims to outline planning and community input.
At a recent Sunshine Football Club meeting officers were appointed for the coming season led by President E Naylor and Secretary R Wilson. The club voted to enter the Victorian Sub-District League, with ten teams including Sunshine and West Melbourne. The annual meeting is in March, coach appointment pending, training nights to be announced, and council support includes hospital appeal donations and kindergarten health inspections.
Sunshine District Football Club works two teams for the Footscray District League with Selwyn Park use and transport arranged. Presentation Night on Feb 16 in the Masonic Hall saw Shire President Cr J B Parsons and Footscray District League Secretary Dr A E Shepherd present trophies. Annual meeting set for next Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Shire Hall with a report from the Secretary and invitations to members and prospective players.
J Morrissey of Ascot Vale was convicted for allowing stock to wander on McIntyre Road. A fine of 2 shillings 6 pence per head totaled £6 2s 6d with £2 18s costs.
Witnesses to an accident at the Barkly Street and Geelong Road corner on Saturday February 23 between 1 30 and 1 60 p m are asked to contact Mr F Pearce at 141 Derby Road Sunshine for information and statements.
Enrolment for Girls Physical Culture classes to be held Wednesday March 6 1946 at Shire Hall. Juniors up to 6 years and Intermediates 10 to 14 years with times 6 p.m. and seniors in the evening. Open to all organized by Finehtine Younger.
Witness C. K. Barelay reports a dramatic rescue at Fraser Street Sunshine where a woman identified as Mrs. G. Williams saved a child from an approaching Adelaide Express on Ballarat Railway line. She chased one child to safety but collapsed after pulling the second from danger.
The Cyclone storm caused property damage in St Albans with downed chimneys damaged roof sections and power outages until Tuesday. Rain totaled over 1 inch and cleared by midweek. Community events include Keilor Council meeting, Progress Association membership drive, and girls club activities.
The interdenominational event gathers in over fifty countries on Friday March 18 with a 2 30 p m service at the Presbyterian Church led by Sunshine ministers wives Misssionary Mrs Freeman of Fiji as guest speaker The theme is The Things that make for Peace and calls for renewed faithfulness and consecration.
The Shire Child Care Committee held its first meeting with few attendees from the Baby Health Centre Marmyrnong Child Centre Maidstone and Sunshine Free Kindergartens. Discussions covered affiliate links with the Free Kindergarten Union hall use and a plan for parent education evenings starting March 20.
The Governor General Duke of Gloucester announced the DFC to Group Captain Peter Avison Parker of Sunshine. Parker's wife is former Miss Roma Fowler of the Hotel Derrimut.
