Local Preacher Mr G. Thompson Celebrates 50 Years
Sunshine Methodists honored local preacher Mr G. Thompson for fifty years of service. The church was packed with attendees from Maidstone Albion Deer Park and Footscray as Rev G R Godbehear opened the tribute with speeches and songs. Presentations included an armchair and a Bible translation volume from Footscray delegates. A birthday cake with 74 candles marked Thompson’s February 7 birthday, and a full report will appear in The Advocate.

Conference certificate presented to longtime preacher
At Sunshine Methodist Church on Sunday evening a Conference Complimentary Certificate was presented to Mr A. G. Thompson for fifty years of service as a Methodist local preacher. Six Victorian Local Preachers' Association officials attended the service conducted by Rev G R Godbehear with remarks by Mrs Clucas and Mrs Atkins.

Charles Preston faced a Sunshine court for running a book at Epsom Races on December 29. Constable Wilder testified he saw him taking a bet and found a notebook with betting records. Preston admitted starting the activity and said all bets in the book were taken that day. He pleaded guilty and was fined £20 with time to pay.

Frederick Roy Hiscock Walter Hewitt John Ryan and John Hubber were each fined ten shillings for riding bicycles in Sunshine without lights between sunset and sunrise, violating regulations on carrying lights.

Bicycle on Footpath Cleared by Sunshine Bench
Bernard Calnan of Ridley Street faced an offence charge for leaving his bicycle on a footpath in San Crescent. The bench noted that even pedestrians with prams or parcels could breach the act. Constables Wilcher and Henry testified to the obstruction, Calnan claimed he moved the bike into a shop for repairs, then outside to wait. The case was dismissed after shop manager William Roach corroborated the sequence.
