Braybrook Shire Council on Monday evening adopted estimates for the coming financial year with a total expenditure of £20,982 and revenue of £30,277. Only £9,295 remains for new works and maintenance, the rest covering fixed expenditure including £6,303 for debt service.
A budget sheet lists estimated receipts totaling 90 277 pounds and expenditure at 620 083 pounds. It breaks down receipts by licences, health services, rate grants, and government support, with small itemized amounts for halls, plant hire, pavement works, and miscellaneous fees. The balance of 9 205 pounds is to be apportioned between the shire ridings for 1938 9 for new works and improvements.
Totals £9205 for 1937-8 include £7625. Public Works expenditure of £7,525 last year exceeded by £2,100, creating a £1,995 debit balance to start this year. This partially offsets the extra revenue expected from higher valuations.
Discussion on the annual garbage collection levy of 7/6. Dr. Dempster seeks deletion, Dr. Lowe supports reducing to 5/-. A £600 revenue source funds new works, and eliminating the levy would reduce funds and affect ratepayers. Some areas do not receive the service, causing potential discontent if other sections are relieved of payment. The current estimates assume the levy, and changes would require reframing for next year’s plans.
