San Clemente plans a 138000 dollar structural assessment of its 1300 foot pier this winter. TranSystems will inspect under water pilings, design a rehab package, and seek permits. Inspections could begin mid January and last two to three months, weather permitting.
City council denied Wal-Mart's request to set up a small beer and wine tasting area near the frozen foods and alcohol section two to three weekends a month. Residents voiced concerns about drinking, driving and family values while staff noted 67 percent of Orange County Wal-Marts have tastings. council suggested reapplying with a safer location and smaller limits.
San Clemente leaders and Capistrano Shores residents agreed to refine the city proposed Local Coastal Program to protect 90 oceanfront mobile homes. The council sent the plan back for language tweaks on coastal canyons setbacks shoreline protection and overnight beach curfews before resuming Jan 19. Residents fear the Coastal Commission may push new development limits threatening their sea wall and right to rebuild after disasters.
