Pandemic drives spike in highway speeding nationwide

Amid the pandemic open roads and eased enforcement fueled a surge in speeding. Iowa reports a 101 percent jump in speeds over 100 mph and a 75 percent rise for 25 mph over limit. California issues over 15,000 tickets for 100 mph plus. Ohio troopers record 2,200 such tickets since April with a 147 mph high, while July becomes its deadliest month since 2007 with 154 fatalities. Police note continued high speeds as traffic returns and enforcement thins.
