State auditor probes second investigation into agency
The State Auditor's Office launched a second probe this year after an April press conference revealed questions from the initial review. The investigations also involve the State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Commerce Inspector General in Atlanta, tied to a $170,000 Neuse COG check intended for a Jacksonville contractor under the Jobs Training Partnership Act led by David Turrentine. Turrentine, charged with embezzlement over a $21,400 Z. Smith Reynolds grant, has repaid the funds and awaits Craven Superior Court trial in September. Neuse COG has 30 days to respond before public release, expected in October.
