Havelock police arrest bookstore theft suspect
Kenneth Lloyd Noble, 26, of 104 Kenner Heights Apartment 3, was arrested near his home by Havelock police after a two day manhunt for a Monday afternoon robbery at Cover to Cover bookstore on US 70. The clerk was found bound in a back room. Bond and first court date to be set today.

State seeks disease resistant sterile oyster aim

New Weather Office To Begin Data Transmission Thursday
The National Weather Service will start broadcasting weather warnings for a 15 county area in eastern North Carolina from its Newport office on Thursday. The facility, completed last May, houses a $2 million Doppler radar to improve severe weather detection and speed up warnings. Meteorologist in charge Thomas Kriehn notes the modernization and explains the radar was placed in Newport after considering Hatters. Counties affected include Craven Pamlico Jones and Carteret.
