Sunset Drive bypass work begins in Havelock
Heavy equipment and workers line Sunset Drive as clearing and tree removal start for the planned 221 million bypass. Contractors Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc will build a four lane median divider and a perpendicular flyover. The 10 mile route runs from near the city limit north to the Carteret county line by 2024. The project aims to ease beach traffic and boost freight and economic development.
