Woman Finds Her Children in Charity Jar Photos

Sue Mayo of Alliance discovered a collection jar at Medical Arts Pharmacy on Neuse Boulevard showing her own children. The jar had been dropped off by a regular customer who believed the children were needy. Mayo’s husband found a second jar with the same picture at an Askin business.

Fire destroys home. family seeks help with loss

Helen King 30 and her sons Larry Jr. 9 Romeo 7 lost their rented house at 512 West St after a Tuesday night fire blamed on a bathroom candle. Fire damage totals about 6000 with clothing and items to replace. the family plans to move to HUD housing by December 1 and is seeking donations of clothing, shoes, furniture and other essentials. Donations accepted at 1036 North St. or 510 1/2 George St.

SOS grants aid New Bern youth program in after school push

Ed Bell’s Youth Vision won the first installment of a 74 666 grant for a daily after school program at Oaks Road Elementary to aid at risk youth. The SOS funding comes from a 4 6 million state appropriation aimed at early intervention to prevent trouble among unsupervised children.
