De Niro Breathes Life into Branagh Frankenstein
A Ellsberg era review notes Robert De Niro lends intelligence and compassion to the monster in Kenneth Branagh’s Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The film, Brannagh’s stylish but overstuffed adaptation, follows Victor Frankenstein from Geneva to Ingolstadt as he confronts the consequences of his patchwork creation. De Niro delivers a powerful, deeply felt performance, while the film’s soundtrack and pacing draw mixed reactions despite striking cinematography by Roger Pratt.
