City man confesses to Bridgeton car lot break-ins

Michael Ray Sanders, 27, of New Bern, confessed to breaking into cars at four Bridgeton car sales lots over two weeks. He faced multiple felony counts for breaking and entering and larceny after investigators linked him to thefts from Rowe's Quality Cars, Bill Potter's Auto, Dail's Auto Sales, and Mac's Auto Sales, including a 1986 Camaro valued at 3995 and other items. He is held on bond and to appear in Craven County District Court.

German convicts seized after 800 mile chase

German authorities recaptured two escaped inmates after a bank robbery that took seven hostages and triggered an 800 mile pursuit toward a warmer country. Police ringed a lakeside village north of Frankfurt as the suspects abandoned a Mercedes and freed the remaining captives. A 35 year old Swiss extortionist, Gerhard Polak, was found hiding in brush. a 32 year old former East German army member, Raymond Albert, surrendered to police.

Winter storm to form over Rockies this week

An early winter storm system will take shape over the Rockies on Thursday. Snow will increase through the day over central portions of the Rockies. Rain will fall from the central Plains to the southern Rockies. A few showers are possible over the southern Plains. Rain is possible later in the day over the upper Mississippi Valley. High pressure brings mainly sunny skies to the East Coast and West Coast.

Lady of Oplentis Meets Doctor After 2 Millennia

In Sydney researchers conducted the first detailed forensic study of Pompeii victim the Lady of Oplentis, dating from 79 A.D. The 30 to 35 year old woman choked on fine ash as a volcanic gas cloud flooded Pompeii. Her preserved remains reveal a wide open mouth, outstretched arms, a bracelet and a coin purse. The examination confirms death by asphyxiation from ash and mucus, with a cement like cast forming around the upper respiratory tract. The exhibit is touring the Australian Museum after arrival from Pompeii.
