Senate bill seeks wind turbine ban near military flight paths

Senate Majority Leader Harry Brown pushes SB 377 to limit wind energy facilities where vertical obstructions pose high safety risks to aviation training. The plan relies on a two color map. coastal counties and large eastern zones would be restricted while the western and some inland areas remain open. Supporters argue wind energy must yield to military training needs, citing economic importance of bases and defense spending. Opponents note existing federal processes can mitigate conflicts and warn the bill could become a statewide ban.
