First Memorial Day Parade Returns to New Bern After 60 Years
A volunteer committee under Alderman Victor Taylor’s Vision Forward organized New Bern’s first Memorial Day parade in over six decades. It began at Fort Totten Park and ended at Kafer Park near Cedar Grove Cemetery, led by a color guard from the New Bern Young Marines. A brief memorial service followed on Cedar Street with speakers from each military branch. Jones praised the day, noting a smaller turnout than hoped but satisfaction with the historic observance.
