Navy commander David Shirk of New Bern was slated to retire in an April 20 ceremony aboard the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor. The COVID-19 pandemic canceled the event and Celtics games, sending him home to his wife Benny and their three teenage children for Easter, the first time all were under one roof since his assignment began.
