Accident kills 9 year old near his Cove City home

A 9 year old boy waiting for a school bus on Spring Garden Road was struck and killed by a car driven by substitute teacher Patricia Clark. Brett Weeks died at Craven Regional Medical Center after the morning crash near his home. Weeks and his sister attend James W. Smith Elementary School. the sister was uninjured. The bus had not arrived at the time of the collision.

Ex Marines plead guilty in Croatan Forest fire case

Two former Camp Lejeune Marines pleaded guilty in Raleigh to malicious destruction of a vehicle affecting interstate commerce for burning a truck used in an insurance scam. The fire burned 24,600 acres of the Croatan National Forest, caused $2.5 million in damage, and $5 million to fight. Sentencing set for July 24 in New Bern.

Rolls-Royce Owners Stop in Eastern North Carolina Tour

About 65 Rolls-Royce owners and passengers from the U S and Canada travel eastern North Carolina in 22 Silver Ghosts. They spent Monday night in New Bern and visited Tryon Palace Beaujon and Hatteras Yachts before heading to the Outer Banks. The convoy drew praise for rugged dependability and time worn character with cars ranging from fresh paint to battle worn badges. The Wholly Ghost Club emerged eight years ago as a spin off of the Rolls-Royce Owners Club.
