Smaller trees lining Craven County streets show new urban plantings
Craven County extends a trend toward smaller diverse street trees for better landscapes and fewer sidewalk cracks. Bridgeton residents Haggett and DeLorme helped plant varieties along A, B and C streets, including white fringetree, vitex, trident maple, and more. Havelock teams, led by Thompson, Deedman, and Bob Collins, added Chinese parasol and fringetrees near Highway 70, with Chinese pistache nearby. New Bern crews, led by Roger Heckman, expand Chinese pistache, vitex, and Natchez crape myrtle along streets. A May 20 meeting at the agricultural building will discuss North Carolina Urban Tree Evaluation.
