Torrential rains left mud and flooding threatening swollen streams and reservoirs as officials led by White House Chief of Staff Panetta visited hardest hit areas. Fourteen dead, three missing, 7,000 evacuated, and billions in damage reported. Governor Wilson sought federal aid, crop losses topped 303 million with lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, and almonds hit hardest. Forecasters warned of more storms and snowmelt dangers. Meanwhile California’s Salinas Valley floods push up produce prices, with broccoli and cauliflower likely to rise about a dollar.
