Nation Tax Cut Moves Swiftly Through House
The House Ways and Means Committee approved a Republican tax plan by a 21 to 14 party line vote after Democrats withdrew further amendments. The bill includes a $500 child tax credit and capital gains cuts, with Treasury estimates placing five and ten year costs at $189 billion and $630 billion respectively. Republicans say most benefits flow to families earning $30 000 to $100 000, while Democrats warn of skewed perks to the wealthy and higher deficits.
