Public hearing on New Bern budget set for tonight
New Bern aldermen prepare to approve a 58,740,000 budget with no tax or utility fee increases. The plan adds four new staff positions in a utility billing department and pursues a 1.8 million lease purchase of two generators to cut annual electric costs by about 720,000. One unit will serve Hatteras Yachts with savings of 3,000 per month on its 70,000 monthly bill. A pool project is studied but not funded in the current budget, aiming for a summer start via lease financing at 500,000 to 700,000.
