Two Craven Pamlico crashes claim two lives
Two area residents died in separate Monday crashes in Craven and Pamlico counties. Kendra Squires 17 of Bayboro died after her car collided with a van on NC 304 near Bayboro around noon. Dale Stewart 28 of Jacksonville died in a single vehicle crash on Secondary Road 1621 near Vanceboro around 10:45 p.m. Stewart’s GMC pickup struck a tree and overturned. Squires was flown to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where she died at 10 p.m.. several others were treated for injuries.

Accused killer Skeels testifies in Craven County trial
Michael Ray Skeels, 30, took the stand in Craven County Superior Court on Monday denying memory of signing rights and claiming drug impairment. He faces charges of first degree murder first degree kidnapping armed robbery and attempted armed robbery for the May 4 1994 shooting of retired Air Force colonel Elbert Stokes in Goldsboro. Skeels testified he smoked marijuana and used crack cocaine the day of the crime, while investigators noted his bloodshot eyes but said he did not seem under the influence.
