Prison escape casts doubt on Stromer case
Sheriff officials say a portion of the prison is full and may indicate an escape though authorities consider the escape theory uncertain. Stromer, a life-sentenced rapist and kidnapper convicted in 1990 in Pitt County for abducting and raping a high school student, faced additional allegations of arranging a fellow inmate’s bond to kill the victim. The inmate was released but not tried for the planned murder.
