A cold front moves east today across North Carolina bringing mostly cloudy conditions with a chance of showers and storms along the coast while the western area stays partly cloudy and warm. Highs in the mid 80s to near 90, lows 60s to mid 70s. Monday forecast is partly cloudy with warm conditions, highs mid to upper 80s, lows mid 60s to mid 70s.
Gladys King Young 73 of 1105 Catfish Road Black Swamp died Thursday at home. Funeral Wednesday at Myrtle Grove United Church of Christ with Rev Daniel Squires officiating. Burial at White Oak Come. Survived by five sons William Jr Jervens Steven Clennie Rod ney. three daughters Patricia Carrie Carol. four brothers James Earl David William. two sisters Flossie Winnie. 18 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren. Family time 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rivers Morgan Funeral Home Chapel and at residence.
Eugene M. Durso Sr. 73 of 101 Knotline Road died Friday at Craven Regional Medical Center. A retired Foster Wheeler mechanical engineer, he moved to New Bern in 1987 and belonged to St. Pauls Catholic Church and several clubs. Funeral Monday 10 a.m. at St. Pauls with burial at St. Josephs Cemetery. He is survived by Irene Durso, two sons, one daughter, two brothers, four grandchildren. Memorials to American Heart Association or Cancer Society. The Cotten Funeral Home hosted a wake 7 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 8 p.m.
Anthony Calvin Curmon, 16, of Craven Terrace, charged Friday with assault with a deadly weapon in a July 1 incident that left Tavares Chadwick with 12, 10, and 9 inch cuts. Curmon held on 5000 dollar secured bond, scheduled for Craven County District Court. Julianna McWhorter, 31, indicted for welfare fraud and false pretenses, released on 2000 dollar unsecured bond.

A long retired principal of Oriental Elementary and a Winston Mutual Insurance agent, he received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1989 and was a lifelong Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church member. Wake is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Clinton Chapel. funeral 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. R. P. McDougall officiating. He leaves daughter Rosetta E. Lewis of New Bern, sons Gilbert E. Lewis New York, Harvard A. Lewis New Bern, Walter H. Lewis Greensboro, 10 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren.
Gene Rollins Best 37 of Arapahoe North Carolina died at Craven Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held at Pollock Wells and Best Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Bobby Jones officiating. Burial followed at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Survived by parents James Rollins Best and Ione Best of Arapahoe and five brothers. Memorials to Pamlico County Rescue Squad in North Carolina.
