Joseph M Wetherington 80 of the Dayton Community died at home on July 14 2020. He worked in forest products until retirement in 2001 and held NC state age 50-55 half marathon record. He and wife Evelyn owned Country Mart Convenience Store and Restaurant for 28 years. He is survived by two sons a daughter six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A private service will be held later with Cotten Funeral Home handling arrangements.

He served 28 years in the Marine Corps and is survived by wife Melissa, sons Martin and Robert III, stepsons Jacob and Gavin, brother Jeffrey, and mother Alma Jean. A private service will be at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with a later backyard pig pickin.

Craven County Health Department reports 486 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of 11 a.m. July 15, 2020. Of these, 416 have recovered and are out of isolation after meeting a 72 hour symptom-free requirement. Eight deaths occurred and one active case is hospitalized. cases include 351 direct contacts, 110 community transmission, 12 travel related, and 13 under investigation.

Craven schools adopt Plan B for mixed in person and remote learning
Craven County Schools will implement Plan B for reopening with in person and remote options. Safety measures include face coverings for all K 12 students and staff, limited building occupancy for six feet distancing, symptom screening, isolation space, regular cleaning, hand washing, and reduced gatherings.
