Former Sun Journal Publisher John Graham dies at 80
John Richard Graham 80, longtime New Bern community leader and former Sun Journal publisher, died February 8 at Carolina East Medical Center. He led the paper from the mid 1980s until 2000 and supported local causes including Rotary and Salvation Army. He is survived by wife Linda and son David. Services were held earlier this week.

New Bern Aldermen reject electric rate increase plan
The New Bern Board of Aldermen unanimously voted down a proposed electric rate increase tied to a 1.2 percent NCEMPA wholesale rise with an anticipated 2.4 percent hike in 2020. A $1.70 monthly residential increase was rejected. officials will use the Rate Stabilization Fund to cover gaps for 2019 and 2020.

Burned body identified in Rural Hall murder case
The Craven County Sheriff's office identified a burned body as 40 year old Nicholas Williams. Norris Dwayne Rochelle Jr. of Rural Hall is charged with murder. Peter Schocker of New Bern is charged with accessory after the fact and is held awaiting first appearance.
