Vanceboro arsonist convicted in Craven County case

Timothy Lail of Vanceboro pleaded guilty to second degree arson for a 2018 fire at Craven Farms Road. The habitual felon was sentenced to up to eight years and ordered to pay $48,000 restitution to the property owner after investigators linked him to starting the fire with garbage debris while intoxicated.

Beaman Road blaze yields third homicide for sheriff

First term sheriff Chip Hughes reports a burned body found along Beaman Road about five miles west of New Bern after a brush fire call around 11 30 p m. The fire was confined to the area and a body was discovered near the Caswell Branch Bridge built in 1909 and restored in 2007 by the New Bern Preservation Society.

Coffee With a Cop at Dunkin Donuts on Valentine’s Day

New Bern Police Department partners with Dunkin Donuts at 2315 Neuse Boulevard for a meet-and-greet event called Coffee With a Cop. The free coffee session runs from 7 to 9 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, offering a neutral space for residents to meet officers, ask questions, and discuss community policing.

Havelock Board Discusses Four Way Roundabout Plan

Havelock City leaders debated a four sided roundabout at Lake Road and Miller Boulevard as a safer, efficient alternative to the current intersection along a hurricane damaged road. The NC Railroad indicated conditional acceptance pending right of way. Mayor William Lewis updated on progress with HNTB and NC DOT involvement.
