Special election in North Carolina after Walter Jones death
The death of Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr opens the 3rd District seat to a special election called by Governor Roy Cooper, with timing uncertain. A crowded GOP primary is expected while the 9th District awaits certification of 2018 results and an evidentiary hearing on election fraud. North Carolina’s map overhaul may occur by 2020, but a new map likely won’t precede a 2019 vote. Pennsylvania also schedules a May 21 special for Rep. Marino’s seat.
