GAO finds VA leaders lax in reporting inept providers to boards
GAO audit shows VA medical centers delayed or failed to report providers with unsafe care or misconduct to state boards and the National Practitioner Data Bank. Auditors reviewed 148 providers, finding missing or late reviews, with 13 cases warranting adverse actions but only one referred to the data bank. VA pledges faster reporting and tighter oversight, with interim guidance and policy reforms forthcoming.

Freeze dried plasma reaches US special operations troops
U S military special operations units now carry freeze dried blood plasma to halt bleeding on the battlefield. Marines were last to adopt the kit after Army Ranger medic Sgt. Bryan Anderson used it to save Cpl. Josh Hargis. The plasma, stored in a glass bottle, reforms with water and requires no refrigeration, allowing rapid use in combat.
