New Bern mother not charged after surrendering newborn Baby Jane
New Bern police say a one day old infant left on a porch on July 17 was properly surrendered under North Carolina safe surrender laws. The mother remained with the baby until possession was taken, no charges filed, and the infant was found in good condition at Carolina East Medical Center. Craven County Social Services took custody and continues care.

Voting by mail surges ahead of 2020 election in Craven County
Craven County residents show a push toward mail in ballots for the November 3 general election. As of July 30 the Board of Elections had received over 800 mail in ballot requests and is tallying more than 100 weekly.
