Oliver Tambo, co founder of the African National Congress and exile leader, died of a stroke at 75. Mandela called the deaths of Tambo and Chris Hani a serious blow to the anti apartheid movement as talks for South Africa's first black majority elections accelerate. Tambo led the ANC during exile and returned in 1990 to lead a relegalized organization now poised for negotiations to end white rule.

Two Vanceboro men charged with marijuana offenses
Roy Carson Fillingame, 32, of 1800 Butler Ford Road, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture marijuana, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He reportedly had five marijuana plants and under a half ounce, bonded at $1,000. Daniel Mark Henderson, 21, of 245 Albert Morris Road, was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and related offenses after allegedly possessing 300 grams. He bonded at $3,000 and was to appear in Craven County District Court.

Police say four teens from New Bern area, two 17-year-olds and two 15-year-olds, were questioned after a Friday night BB gun vandalism spree across 13 neighborhoods including Spencer Avenue.
