The Sun-N-Surf Chapter of the American Business Women's Association named three Venice leaders at its 1982 awards banquet. Roberts Byrne received Boss of the Year, Julie McMahon was Woman of the Year, and Christine Eden won the ABWA Sun-N-Surf scholarship.

The Venice firm established in 1977 at 1734 S Tamiami Trail changed its name in April to Simmons Furniture Inc. A sign bearing the new name was erected May 1. Connie Simmons owns the business and Steve Gifford manages the store, which remains at its current Sarasota area location.
