St Patrick group saves papers to fund parade bands
Friendly Sons and Daughters of St Patrick aimed to save newspapers to defray St Patrick's Day Parade band costs. The plan grew to 133 tons of paper, about 2260 trees, funding local groups including Venice Area Community Meals and Venice Senior Friendship Centers. Immediate past President George Burkholder and Eugene McCaffey handed out checks to Ed Cruse and Terry Keating as part of the distribution. Retirees helped collect papers for Tampa, with Kiwanis Key Club members aiding in the effort.
