Suspect arson in local fires in Venice area
A string of 26 brush fires since April 4 in the Golf Drive and Guild Drive area near Venice prompts Chief Don Jackson to suspect arson. Fires have burned acres and moved close to Wolfer Motors, spurring resident patrols and a petition for more police protection. The blazes mix city and county jurisdictions, delaying unified response. A witness reported a boy on a bicycle seen near the brush before a fire started.
