According to Bonneville a Story at this Point Woods pulled out a knife and bar patrons had to defend themselves with chairs until the manager of the lounge grabbed a Nightstick from behind the bar and hit Woods with it. Woods told police his version of the Story differed in that when he entered the lounge with a Friend Bonneville reportedly shouted a do you want to wrestle Nigger a Woods said he tried to ignore Bonneville but when Bonneville reportedly pushed him he hit him. Woods went on to say that other bar patrons then took up chairs in an alleged attempt to hit him so he took out a knife to defend himself. Then he was hit by the managers Nightstick several times.
