Sun Coast Gondolier (Newspaper) - March 1, 1980, Venice, FloridaLetters to the editor continued from Page 2 Reader says politicians suffer from greed to the editor what prompts men in High places to become involved in rip offs bribery and other a avenues of crime downright greed. This was the motive when the seven congressmen and one senator fell prey to the bribery charge. These eight Public servants dedicated to the welfare of the nation fell prey to a sordid piece of Silver. What was the motive was it Money were they hard up not so. These Public servants enjoy More than adequate salaries plus other lavish goodies. To mention just a few. An Over populated staff does All the work while our congressmen take off for frequent visits to Many foreign lands usually accompanied by their wives. They consider these expensive trips to foreign lands necessary for the purpose of cementing favourable relations with the United states. Hogwash. We have diplomats in every nation on Earth permitted by said nations. It is tells How to take horse pictures to the editor this is a note for photographer Schmidt who had a horse picture in the feb. 16 Sun coast times. My husband and i raised and showed Morgan horses for Over 30 years and have had professional photographers take hundreds of pictures for us. And we have taken hundreds ourselves. You might be interested to know that unless a horses ears Are up you might As Well throw charges Bike path unsafe to the editor is the Bike path into Venice Safe any More i reported the following problems several weeks ago and they Haven to been repaired. There Are two holes where a truck broke through one third of the sidewalk which Are too deep a for a Bike. The Creek before Bayview Parkway has about half the sidewalk going Down lower every rain and right at the Edge is a deep Gully that runs into the canal. A Bike could be thrown Down the deep Ravine. There Are so Many broken bottles on the sidewalk that the a kids tires go Flat on the Way to school. That is bad enough but three motorcycles came on the Road facing traffic going into Venice. All at once the cars stopped quickly and three bikes turned in front of the cars onto the Bike path and stopped. Another 20 feet and we would have been hit. One motorcyclist hit a Hole and almost tipped Over. They appeared drunk. Many mopeds Are driving on the Bike path a a danger to walkers and bikes. If there was a big Hole where cars drive it would get fixed at once. Why not the Bike path Doris Wick Nokomis the picture away. Done to show it to anyone. It takes a lot of time patience and experience but unless the ears Are Forward you have nothing. The most Beautiful horse looks like a nag if the ears Are Back and the Ordinary horse looks great if the ears Are Forward. I have seen Many horse shows held up several minutes while the photographer Waits As rider handler and several assistants work to get the horses ears up. The Blue ribbon Winner must look perfect. One of our most cherished pictures is of three of our morgans full Sisters Side by Side with six ears pointed straight ahead. It was taken by a horse photographer who worked for a Boston newspaper and covered the largest shows in the Northeast. That one really took some doing. Good Luck. Mrs. Edward Havey Venice the duty of diplomats to Foster Good relations with their country As Well As ours. These expensive trips Are nothing More than a vacation the Cost of which was in 1978 two and one half million dollars All paid for by you dear readers by your tax dollars. Our Public servants live in the Lap of luxury no less. Space does not permit listing ill the goodies enjoyed by our Public servants but they Are manifold believe me. The motive then that prompted these eight Public servants to become involved in crime was greed nothing less. What punishment if any will be meted to the guilty Little if any. Men in High places will grouse there will be denials there will be a sense of shame of disgrace to the Halls of Congress but when the chips Are Down men in High places protect their own. There will be adjustments in their role As presiding officers. Some will lose lucrative appointments. A few chairmanships May fade. Their voices will be stilled As the stigma of disgrace is attached to the person. But there will be no real punishment As would apply to a common thief. Greed demands its Pound of flesh. A shattered Pride and a scarred character that will Wear the stamp of greed forever is the Price that these eight Public servants will Wear to the end of time. What a waste of Talent for a few pieces of Silver. Herman Johnson Venice he s disgusted with a rated movie ads to the editor your paper deserves a Hearty accolade from its readers for its policy of refusing to accept advertising from motion picture Heaters that regularly exhibit a rated films and thereby provide publicity for such patently offensive material. It is unfortunate that other widely circulated family paper in the area does not have a similar policy and also that Sarasota county and City authorities allow the open advertising of such filth. Witness the huge sign of a theater on route 41 As one approaches Sarasota advertising its Triplex rated wares. The degradation of womanhood in such films by a a performers who expose and subject themselves to sub animal acts of carnal abuse and perversion is a sacrilegious affront that violates every moral Precept of a civilized society. As a visitor i am impressed with the Overall cleanliness of Venice and Hope that you As the voice of Venice and its esteemed City fathers will Ever strive to keep it so. Thomas Martin Nokomis merchants win kudos for Success of event to the editor we would like to use your paper to convey a message to area merchants from Venice Hospital auxiliary volunteers. Our annual White elephant Sale on feb. 4 and 5 at Community Center was a huge Success. Our total was in excess of $14,000. This will go toward our $250,000 pledge for a new maternity unit a a part of the hospitals expansion program. Donations from area merchants were most generous and a major contributing Factor to the Success of the Sale. Many of the merchants asked that we omit our usual individual letters of appreciation saving postage etc., so we Are saying thanks in this Way. We would also like to publicly thank Ron Hicks for the use of Mayflower equipment and manpower. Without both our move into the Center on the night before the Sale would have been almost an impossible undertaking for our White knights the majority of whom Are 65 years plus. Kay. Hernandez .
