Aimless Wanderers’ Venice Tale Ends in Police Shooting

A Venice Police Patrolman was shot and wounded during a complex chase linked to a Naples Florida drug arrest plot. The incident involved Colleen Lunney and travelers George Thorpe III and Colleen’s companion, with a stolen station wagon tied to a chain of conflicting motives and alibis across several states. The injured officer is undergoing therapy at Blake Memorial Hospital. The case centers on a supposed drug buy at the Gondolier Motel and a web of travelers from Naples to Venice. Colleen Lunney, 22, says she traveled with the group as they moved between Myakka Lounge and Jack's Place before the arrest. Thorpe admitted possession of a borrowed stolen car and offered various versions, including a claim heroin was actually lead cold capsules. The investigation continues to untangle the web of identities and locations.

Venice Council approves sewer upgrade funding plan

Venice City Council approved a six million dollar commitment to upgrade the west side sewer collection system and build a new treatment plant east of the Intracoastal Waterway. The city would pay about two and a half million with federal funds covering the rest.
